Another $1.2 Million For Forest Contractors Support
The Minister for Energy and Resources, David Llewellyn, today announced that Labor will provide a further $1.2 million to help forest contractors suffering from the downturn in the hardwood woodchips market.
“We are adding this to the $600,000 already made available,” Mr Llewellyn said.
“I would like to thank the contractors and forestry workers for their patience as we negotiate the sales they so desperately need.
“These are difficult times for the forestry industry.
“We are working hard to ensure sales for our woodchips in a very tough market situation.
“Negotiations are progressing with new markets identified in Asia, but forestry workers need our help right now.
“The $1.8 million is to help forest contractors keep their heads above water while we work to secure our markets.
“Timber workers can be assured that Labor will continue to do the right thing by them when times are tough.
“We will not turn our back on their very real needs.
“Labor will continue to provide strong support for the timber industry and those who work within it.”
