State Infrastructure Plan Reveals Public Transport Sham
10 February 2010
TasCOSS said the State Infrastructure Strategy released today shows the State Government is just not serious about improving public transport services.
TasCOSS CEO Tom Muller said it was outrageous that in a $6 billion strategy there is seemingly no priority given to investment in new and improved public transport infrastructure and services.
“According to the strategy released today, the only new initiatives we can look forward to in the area of public transport over the next three years are a bunch of marketing strategies to encourage more people to use public transport,”
“Only then does the plan suggest we can expect investment in new and improved services, namely passenger transport on the North-West Coast.”
“There is nothing in the strategy to address the current and urgent need now for better transport services in dozens of communities across the state.”
TasCOSS said the Our Island Our Voices Campaign is calling on Tasmania’s political parties to commit to a revolutionising passenger transport across Tasmania through a five-year $100 million investment program.
