Premier welcomes Auditor General’s statement
Premier David Bartlett today welcomed the Auditor-General’s statement expressing satisfaction with the reliability of processes used to produce post-Year 10 enrolment and attainment data.
“While the audit is incomplete, the Auditor –General has made it clear that his review of procedures confirms our student records are accurate, the processes around collation and editing census data are rigorous and the data itself is reliable.
“The Auditor-General also reviewed my claims of a 12% increase in enrolment data which was based on internal management data. He confirmed that the official August census data provided by the Department of Education also showed a 12% increase in enrolment,” Mr Bartlett said.
Mr Bartlett said that a 12% increase in post-Year 10 enrolments in the new Tasmania Tomorrow Institutions is good news for Tasmania and confirms that the Government’s Tasmania Tomorrow reforms are already having a positive impact.
“We’re moving Tasmania in the right direction, unlike the Liberals and the Greens who have been happy to use our reforms as a political football and take cheap shots from the sidelines.”
Mr Bartlett condemned the Liberals’ policy to walk away from the State Government’s education reforms.
“Will Hodgman is not up to making the tough decisions on anything. He does not have the backbone to make the crucial reforms Tasmania needs,” Mr Bartlett said.
“We are moving forwards. The Liberals will take us backwards. Will Hodgman is prepared to throw our students on the scrapheap for political gain.”
Mr Bartlett said he was interested to hear the Liberals and the Greens response to the Auditor-General’s statement confirming a 12% increase in our post-Year 10 enrolments.
