RETIRING Labor MHA Jim Cox has been told off after his office yesterday told a constituent he could no longer “give a stuff” .
Premier David Bartlett intervened last night and sternly reminded Mr Cox , who is not standing for re-election on March 20, that his duties as Local Government Minister did not end until midnight the previous day.
Campbell Town resident Hamish Kerr had called Mr Cox’s Bass electorate office in Launceston yesterday after his historic home was flooded last week in heavy rains.
Mr Kerr blames recent council roadworks and altered stormwater drains for the extensive flooding of his 180-year-old house, but was angry he received little co-operation from engineers at the Northern Midlands Council.
Mr Kerr rang Local Government Minister Mr Cox yesterday to see if he would act on his behalf and intervene with the council.
But Mr Kerr alleges Mr Cox’s office told him that “the minister was retiring” and he could “not give a stuff about local government any more”.
Mr Bartlett said last night he was disappointed Mr Kerr’s inquiries to the Government had not been handled well.
