Salamanca Lawns
Market-goers will be blown away by a human sign of a renewable energy windmill created on Salamanca Lawns.
Media are invited to attend between 1.00-1.30pm when the Human Windmill will be activated.
Climate Action Hobart, (a local community group dedicated to securing a safe climate), is organizing this eye-catching action to promote and educate the public about the groups initiative, “10 Steps for a Safe Climate – Tasmania’s Contribution to Preventing Dangerous Climate Change”.
The particular focus of this action is Step 4 – Tasmania to work towards becoming a Renewable Energy Island with 100% Renewable Electricity by 2020. Tasmania has world-class renewable energy resources including wind, hydro, wave, tidal, sunshine and potentially, geothermal energy. We have the capability of not only developing these resources for our own State but also export our surplus to reduce emissions on the mainland. This strategy will create investment and sustainable employment in Tasmania and enable a genuine “clean and green’ status to be achieved to improve sustainable tourism opportunities.
The opportunities for Tasmania to embrace renewable energy to address the urgency of climate change will be highlighted and all political parties urged to commit to this initiative during the state election campaign.
