Aboriginal warning to developers

ALL major infrastructure projects in Tasmania are at risk with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community refusing to survey culturally sensitive developments.

In a letter from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land and Sea Council dated December 24, manager Fiona Newson informed developers that all Tasmanian heritage assessments would cease until further notice.

That means works such as the Brighton and Kingston bypasses, or a private project that needs an Aboriginal Heritage Officer to tick off on culturally sensitive issues, cannot gain the necessary approval.
