Walk Against Warming this Saturday

The Tasmanian Walk Against Warming will be held this Saturday 12 December in the forests of the Upper Florentine. The event is one of a number of walks around Australia this Saturday which will be part of an international day of action on climate change. This walk will coincide with the Copenhagen climate talks and is probably the only event on that day to be held in a native forest area threatened by logging.

This walk is being held in the forests because protecting the world’s forests as living carbon stores is absolutely necessary if we are to have any chance of combating dangerous climate change.

Speakers at the walk will also promote a fair transition for workers to a low-carbon economy, sustainable transport, and a vision for Tasmania to become a 100% renewable energy island.

This event is family-friendly. In addition to music, speakers and the walk, visitors will be offered guided tours, children’s activities, information stalls and an in-forest climate classroom.
