Turn on Paige
Good morning, evening or afternoon,
Paige has asked me to send you the follow regarding her show at 6pm, Tuesday December 15 on edgeradio.org.au or 99.3fm for those Hobartside
Paige Turner chats with Madeline Hamilton, author of the new Arcade Publications book ‘Our Girls, Aussie Pin Ups of the 40s and 50s’ about how ‘our girls’ moved from providing healthy moral support for wartime troops to becoming more sexualised and bigger bosomed to sell products. Madeline talks about the girls she tracked down, the experience and sadness of researching the men who wrote them letters in WWII and the changing face of beauty.
‘Our Girls’ is a beautifully designed, small format, fascinatingly illustrated – with personal stories interwoven with the greater social history of these times.
PPS – YOU CAN TUNE IN IF YOU ARE OVERSEAS – edgeradio.org.au
PPPS – after that, at 7pm Paige will be chatting, live, to Maureen Scott Harris, Canadian poet and winner of the 2009 Wildcare Nature Writing Prize and David Owen, author of ‘Shark, at Peril in the Sea’ at the Lark Distillery, organised by The (lovely) Tasmanian Writers’ Centre.
