Tasmanian heritage musicians jam at Fullers Bookshop and Afterword Cafe at 1pm today

Fullers Bookshop and Afterword Cafe will become a Tasmanian musical oasis in the face of Boxing Day Sales this afternoon at 1pm.

Tasmanian heritage musicians will be holding a jam session in the Afterword cafe, located inside Fullers Bookshop.

The tunes that will be played are ones that the group have collected, by one means or another, over many years and include traditional Cape Barren music, music from the Huon and music collected from the state’s old accordion and fiddle players.

This event came about in an organic fashion, following an event at Fullers Bookshop for the book Tasmanian Songman, Ronnie Summers.

Ronnie, who is a Cape Barren elder and musician was playing in the Afterword Cafe and two musicians who he recorded the album that accompanies his book arrived and the event turned in to a spontaneous jam. It was then that today’s jam was organised.

The group, which can sometimes feature up to twelve musicians, has 60-80 tunes in their repertoire and are still collecting.

All musicians are welcome to come and join in, recently at a jam in the Huon a 90 and 84 year old brother and sister came along and joined in

As this is a free form jam session the barrier between audience and musician is broken down and it will be a casual and welcoming environment.

All are welcome to attend this free event.
