Tasmanian Division of The Australian Democrats Officially Re-established

Posted on

The Tasmanian Division of The Australian Democrats has been officially re-established by a motion of the National Executive of the party last night.

Tasmanian Campaign Director for the Australian Democrats, James Irvine, said “this has been a culmination of months of work by the Tasmanian Members to rebuild the Division. We set ourselves a deadline of Christmas and have done it well before time.”

The Australian Democrats have been gathering momentum in Tasmania over the last four months in concert with the national rebuilding program that the Australian Democrats began in April of this year.

“We are welcoming new people in to the party every week and remain hopeful of reaching our target of re-registering in time for the State election,” Mr Irvine said. “A surge in disillusioned Liberals enquiring about switching to the Democrats in the last couple of days may help, but we also need all former Democrats and anyone who supports the party but just never joined to join now and help us achieve this goal.”

The party will meet in Launceston and by phone on December 16 to appoint an acting executive to establish the processes of the reformed division before holding formal elections in April next year.

The Tasmanian Division also has a general policy poll out to start getting feedback and direction on which area of State policy they should work on first. You can access the survey from www.tas.democrats.org.au
