Something rotten in the state of Tasmania

Posted on

‘Woolworths and Tabcorp are both keen to increase their poker machine numbers as they have a high profit margin with few operating costs.’ The Age 9/12/2009

And still our brilliant Labor government can’t work out what is happening to gaming in this State.

Higher Land Tax and municipal rates, no money to pay for anything, these economic twits in government have $120million p.a. sitting available for them to grab and pay for a better health system.

How? Federal Hotels have not honored their Sovereign contract to open the Freycinet development ‘Safire’ by 2006. Now 4 years later it is to open in April, 2010, just as winter starts. Its only a promise that it will open.

The government should seize back the gaming license immediately from Federal Hotels and retain their commission for itself and take the revenue and use it to help the needy of this state.

I believe that Network gaming only costs $5million per annum to run and for it the operators receive $120million per annum. This operation could be run from Sydney, Moonah, Braddon or the Caribbean. It is not hard, its computers and software any IT person should understand that, even our premier could.

Why does our government and its loyal opposition the Libs support the Farrells, one family over the 260,000 families in this State?

Why are we being screwed by this deal?

What is it that we owe to Federal Hotels that we constantly have to give them things like the ABT railway for a dollar, the gaming license for nothing? In 15 years they have received over $2 billion for doing nothing but exploitation of the vulnerable.

We could have the best hospital system in Australia, the best education system, the best transport system; instead we have a full womens prison.

There is something very rotten in the State of Tasmania and it starts with people like our Premier and Hidding and Groom and O’Byrne, all apologists for Federal Hotels.
