The Tasmanian Greens today launched their team of candidates who will join sitting member Cassy O’Connor MP to contest the seat of Denison in next year’s State election.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said the diverse Denison candidate team will take the lead on inner city planning and urban living, public transport and health and housing initiatives for accessible and affordable services that have been ignored or sidelined under Labor.
The State Green Team for Denison features:
· Cassy O’Connor MP, Greens Member for Denison and Lead candidate;
· Helen Burnet, Deputy Lord Mayor of Hobart;
· Kartika Franks, Senior Policy Officer with Housing Tasmania;
· Penelope Ann, former secondary school teacher and small business owner from Risdon Cove; and,
· Peter Cover, engineering worker from Claremont.
“The Greens’ Denison team will be pushing sustainable solutions for Hobart and its environs across issues that have been ignored by Labor for too long,” said Mr McKim.
“Better public transport, a more liveable city, better planning outcomes, the removal of pokies from the community, and health and housing initiatives that encourage a healthier community are all on the Greens’ agenda and this team is ready to deliver.”
“The Greens lead the way when we took a policy to the last state election supporting a feasibility study into passenger light rail options for Hobart and the northern suburbs, and we will continue to propose public transport and cycleway options during this campaign.”
“The Denison team has the diversity and commitment to help transform Hobart and surrounding suburbs towards a more liveable, sustainable, and low emissions future.”
