Field brother to run for Greens

Posted on

THE Tasmanian Greens have lured the brother of a former Labor premier to stand in next year’s election./st

Ted Field will retire on Christmas Eve from his job as head librarian in Devonport and will run for the Greens, filling the No. 2 spot on their Braddon ticket.

Mr Field is not only the younger brother of former premier Michael, he is also the older brother of Terry Field, current Premier David Bartlett’s right-hand man.

In another twist, their father Jack was a staunch Liberal.

But aside from Michael and Terry, none of the eight children has a political leaning.

Ironically, Michael Field led the infamous Labor-Greens Accord in the early 1990s.

And with current opinion polls indicating a minority government result in the March 20 election, Ted also may serve in some form of power-sharing government.
