What Michael Hodgman said …
It is with mixed emotions that I have informed the Tasmanian Division of the Liberal Party that I will not be contesting the next State Election.
Since I was first elected to Parliament in 1966, I have striven to represent my constituents to the best of my ability.
I believe that the time is right for me to bow out of Parliament at the 20 March election, an election I hope will install the Hodgman Liberal Government that Tasmania so desperately needs.
I am doing this because I believe it is right for the Liberal Party, it is right for the people of Tasmania and my electors in Denison, and it is right for me.
It has been a singular privilege to serve in both Houses of the Tasmanian Parliament and in the House of Representatives, including as a Federal Minister – for a total of more than 34 years.
And it is an immense pleasure to be both the son of a distinguished Tasmanian parliamentarian and the father of one who I think will be an outstanding Premier of Tasmania.
