Quad-axle semis on road soon
QUAD-AXLE semi-trailers capable of carrying heavier loads will soon be allowed on Tasmanian roads.
Addressing an infrastructure forum in Launceston yesterday, Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges said the Government had agreed to allow the vehicles on the road network by as early as next year.
Mr Sturges said that a suitable route was being determined, with Illawarra Rd, the Tasman Highway and the Tasman Bridge to be excluded from the network.
A number of bridges are being upgraded to cater for the heavier loads, which Mr Sturges said would be on the roads by late 2010 or early 2011.
