Route options for linking Flagstaff Gully with the East Derwent Highway are to be surveyed. It is now timely for the State Government to reconsider its opposition to this missing link in a strategic Lauderdale to Bowen Bridge Eastern Ring Road. The link will provide an alternate to the dangerous Begonia Road – Malunna Street inter-highway ‘rat-run’ and reduce traffic congestion at the eastern end of the Tasman Bridge.
On my motion, Council has classed this missing link as a priority and consultants have identified route options which are to be surveyed ahead of community consultation and the creation of road reservations.
If elected to State Parliament, I will continue to fight for this and other Eastern Ring Road projects, including the Rokeby By-Pass and Rose Bay slip lane.
