The Tasmanian Greens today said that the out-of-touch Bartlett Government would be feeling the heat during the last sitting of the House of Assembly this week on cost-of-living and governance issues.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said the Greens will be pursuing a number of important governance issues this week including,

· Premier David Bartlett’s apparent misleading of Parliament over the abortive re-appointment of Richard McCreadie as Commissioner of Police;

· The Premier’s bullying of teachers over the failed Tasmania Tomorrow reforms; and,

· The large number of recent cost-of-living rises under the Bartlett Government, including the sharp rise in electricity prices, raised car registration fees, higher bus fares, and especially the size of the new water and sewerage charges.

“The Greens will be pushing the Bartlett Government on a range of serious issues this week, including the Premier’s potential misleading of Parliament over the McCreadie appointment, the numerous cost-of-living rises that this government are overseeing, and the Premier’s dreadful oversight of the Tasmania Tomorrow reforms,” said Mr McKim.

“Cost-of-living pressures are entirely of Labor’s own making, and Mr Bartlett has to come up with solutions rather than just saying he is going to listen.”
