Architecture Gold Medal to lead new ‘people-based’ awards event
The announcement of next year’s winner of Australia’s Gold Medal for Architecture will headline a new annual awards event being introduced by the Australian Institute of Architects.
Placing the achievements of people in architecture more firmly into the spotlight, the Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards event will bring together a suite of existing annual architecture prizes previously announced in the shadow of other flagship Institute events.
The Institute’s National President, Melinda Dodson, says by providing a home for a number of existing individual prizes, the new ‘people-focused’ event will ensure a higher level of recognition for those recipients.
“Headlined by the Australian Gold Medal for Architecture announcement, the Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards will include the Glenn Murcutt Student Prize, Neville Quarry Architectural Education Prize, Student Prize for the Advancement of Architecture and Dulux Study Tour winners,” Ms Dodson said.
There is also scope for the development of new prizes recognising individuals making a contribution to the profession and Australia’s built environment.
The one-hour cocktail-event ceremony will rotate around the country in March each year, and with the Institute’s National Architecture Awards in October, will effectively ‘bookend’ the Institute’s annual event calendar with two major award presentations.
The Australian Institute of Architects is the peak body for the architectural profession, representing more than 9500 members across Australia and overseas. The Institute actively works to improve the quality of our built environment by promoting quality, responsible and sustainable design. Visit the Institute at architecture.com.au .
