Premier Must Call Halt for 2010

The Tasmanian Greens today said that the Premier’s Tasmania Tomorrow reforms are now dividing teachers and school communities as dispute continues over whether Elizabeth College should transfer into the new system next year.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that Mr Bartlett should call a halt to any further campuses entering Tasmania Tomorrow next year as he cannot guarantee improved educational outcomes.
“These reforms are now pitting teacher against teacher, and parent against parent. It’s time for the Premier to call a halt, and make it clear that no campus will be entering the system next year.”
“This is a public policy disaster in anyone’s language, and only leadership from the top can redeem it now.”
“The problem that Mr Bartlett has is that he staked his reputation on these reforms. He clearly feels that he cannot back down, but his intransigence is now dividing the very people who have tried so hard to implement his reforms.”
“This all stems back to Mr Bartlett’s failure to genuinely engage with teachers and school staff during the planning stage.”
