· Labor still opposes four lane, divided Midland Highway
· Labor prefers three lane, fenced road
· Why should Tasmanians expect second-best
David Bartlett has today held a meeting to, according to his own Office “co-sign protocol arrangements to guide the development of an agreement on the future of the Midland Highway”.
What does that actually mean?
Does that mean the Government is trying to gag local councils like Launceston and Hobart from their support for a divided four-lane Midland Highway?
Does that mean that Labor is trying to stop the Mayor of Brighton from expressing his own views?
Does that mean that Labor is trying to continue its plainly bad idea of a three lane road with a wire fence down the middle – or are they now desperately trying to play catch up?
Tasmanians are sick and tired of this sort of spin. The Midland Highway is a national highway and, just like the Bass Highway between Devonport and Burnie, it needs to be developed over 20 years to become a four-lane divided road.
Labor doesn’t think Tasmanians deserve that.
