PWS lacks the will, skills and resources …

Posted on

The report details the results of interviews with major stakeholders including PWS staff in Arthur Pieman management.

The report makes 44 recommendations to improve community involvement.

The report concludes that the PWS lack the will, skills and resources to effectively engage with the community and manage the reserve.

We found evidence suggesting PWS is captured by outdated views of community relationships and is failing to support and build the strong ethic of stewardship present within the community.

We found numerous examples where PWS are routinely excluding the community from the management of the reserve.

We have highlighted and recommended ways in which the PWS can improve, however this seems to have fallen on deaf ears both within PWS and the Government.

We suggest that instead of trying to bitumen the wilderness, the government should be managing the Tarkine coast which already attracts more than 52,000 visitors per year.
