The Tasmanian Greens today accused Premier David Bartlett of running for cover on the tough issues after he last week pulled out of two Leaders’ debates on issues of disability and the property market.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that Mr Bartlett had been publicised as attending the NDS debate on Wednesday (7 October) and the Property Council forum on Thursday (8 October), and had pulled out at the last minute with no explanation.
Mr McKim said that Mr Bartlett’s reluctance to debate other political leaders says volumes about Mr Bartlett’s character, and his credentials as a leader.
“Both Will Hodgman and I showed up to debate Mr Bartlett twice last week, and to my surprise it was other Ministers representing Labor not the Premier.”
“Its hardly surprising that Mr Bartlett wont show up for debates given the mess he’s made of the post year ten education sector and the massive water and Sewerage bills appearing in letterboxes as we speak.”
“Tasmanians deserve a leader who is prepared to front the tough issues, not one who sends others in to do the heavy lifting as Mr Bartlett has done recently.”
“I trust Mr Bartlett won’t be cutting and running from the TasCOSS Leaders debate in December.”
