· Premier ridicules four lane highway then says it is essentially the government’s position – of course it isn’t

· More flip-flopping and insincerity from David Bartlett

· If the Premier now really backs a four lane highway, he needs to start standing up for Tasmania and lobby Kevin Rudd for funding

The Premier is all over the road on a four lane Midland Highway.

In the space of a couple of minutes this morning the Premier went from ridiculing the Liberals’ plans for a four lane highway to saying it was essentially the government’s position – when we all know that it isn’t.

Tellingly though, the Premier refused to commit to even asking Prime Minister Rudd for funding for the four lane national highway that Tasmanians deserve.

The Premier knows that he and his government are isolated in opposing a four lane Midland Highway but today’s performance where he tried to put a foot in each camp was weak and insincere.

If the Premier has really changed his mind and now supports the Liberals’ four lane Midland Highway he has been ridiculing for more than a year, he must come out and say so, and start standing up for Tasmania by lobbying Kevin Rudd for funding.
