New website: It’s not TAP Into A Better Tasmania and the Voters Block …

Posted on

TAP members are very concerned that someone has produced a new website, ‘tapvotersblock.com’*, which pretends to be associated with TAP Into A Better Tasmania and the Voters Block.

This website does not belong to TAP Into A Better Tasmania. It belongs to some unknown person who appears to be waging a private campaign using TAP’s name and TAP’s Voters Block.

The name “Archer Sims” is connected to the site but “Archer Sims” is not a member of TAP.

Comments sent to the site’s email tapvotersblock@gmail.com are read by “Archer Sims”, not TAP.

The site asks for donations but any money that readers send goes to “Archer Sims”, not TAP.

The official site for TAP Into A Better Tasmania and the Voters Block is www.tapvision.info. Information about candidates that oppose the mill can be found there. Donations to TAP’s campaign can also be made at the site.

/Electoral law breaches/
Both the renegade website (as at 19 Oct) and the associated phone information service are not authorised by a real person with a street address.

During the process of phoning candidates, we learnt from several that they had not given permission for their names to be uploaded to tapvotersblock.com. Indeed they were surprised to find that their name used this way.

Donations used to advertise the renegade site featuring the names of candidates could breach the limit on campaign funding of individuals, eg if individuals have already spent their full allowance.

TAP will be advising the Electoral Commission of the deception and of the potential breaches of electoral laws.

The Coordinating Committee of TAP is concerned that this renegade site exposes candidates to a potential legal challenge based on breaches of the electoral law. The Committee is also concerned not only that the public is being hoodwinked but that TAP’s credibility is seriously threatened because of this deception.

Editor: A plea for donations for this website published on TT yesterday. The item has been suspended.
Mike, www.tapvision.info admin, on behalf of the TAP Coordinating Committee
