Long term infrastructure plan already looks a flop

· 11 years on, Tasmanians still waiting for Labor’s long-term infrastructure plan

· Minister appears to indicate that when this decade overdue plan finally sees the light of day, it won’t even aspire to a four lane Midland Highway

· This would be further evidence of Labor’s lack of vision for the future

Tasmanians have waited more than 11 years for the State Labor Government to develop a long-term infrastructure plan for Tasmania.

And now that one is finally being developed by Labor, it appears that, astoundingly, it won’t even include a vision for a four lane Midland Highway.

This is Tasmania’s major arterial highway and even the Infrastructure Minister believes it is a goat track.

Tasmania’s Legislative Council, Midland Highway Mayors, and the Federal Coalition are all on board with the Liberals’ long term vision for a divided four-lane Midland Highway.

If the government has consulted properly on its decade overdue infrastructure plan, and if the government has any vision for the future, then when that plan is finally released, it must aspire to for a four lane divided Midland Highway.

The government finally agreed to develop a long-term infrastructure plan last year and it was supposed to be finalised last month.
