Revelations today that Labor candidates are taking soundings in the community about imposing a toll on the Midland Highway show just how desperate and out of touch Labor is.
Despite arguing for 18 months against our plan, yesterday, following the weekend’s announcement where the Federal Coalition promised to fully-fund our upgrade plan, Deputy Premier Lara Giddings conceded that eventually a four-land Midland Highway would be needed.
That is exactly what the Tasmanian Liberals are proposing – that a dual lane Midland Highway be built, progressively, from 2014-15 over ten years.
Unlike Labor’s twisting and turning on the issue, our Midland upgrade plan is fully costed and fully funded.
Only one side of politics is talking about putting a toll on the Midland Highway – and that is the Labor Party.
The Premier must today categorically rule-out Labor ever imposing a toll on the Midland Highway.
