As Greens’ call for Auditor-General to Audit Enrolment & Retention Data Adopted

The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the Premier’s acceptance of their proposal that the Auditor-General conducts an audit of the Post Year 10 enrolment and retention data, and have pursued their call for a full independent review of the Tasmania Tomorrow system, its implementation and educational outcomes.

Greens Leader and Education spokesperson Nick McKim MP said that independent and empirical data is needed on the impacts of the Tasmania Tomorrow reforms in order to test David Bartlett’s current claims, especially given that these cannot be backed up with evidence.

“We are delighted that the Premier has adopted our suggestion that the Auditor-General conduct an audit of the enrolment and retention rate data, and the challenge now for David Bartlett is that he now also adopts our other suggestion of a full independent review of Tasmania Tomorrow,” Mr McKim said.

“The Auditor-General’s audit, that the Greens proposed, does not replace the need for a full independent review of the entire Tasmania Tomorrow system which is causing so much anxiety among teachers.”

“David Bartlett has been caught out on the data, and what we need now is an expert independent review of Tasmania Tomorrow to test some of the other claims he has been making.”

“The debacle around the retention rate and enrolment data demonstrates that what the government says cannot be trusted, and we need an expert, independent authority to come in, assess what is going on and tell us whether the system is actually delivering as David Bartlett is claiming.”

“We are currently receiving a flood of emails and contacts from teachers and students raising serious concerns about Tasmania Tomorrow not working, so David Bartlett can say that everything is fine as much as he likes but the community deserves a full, independent review to get to the bottom of the mess that he has created.”
