The Tasmanian Greens today said that they remain supportive of an independent inquiry into matters associated with the Premier’s decisions around appointments to, and removals from, the positions of Police Commissioner and Secretary of the Police Department last year.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that many aspects of Premier David Bartlett’s handling of these issues remain unexplained, and would be best assessed via the mechanism of an properly resourced, independent inquiry.

“The Greens have consistently supported an inquiry into Mr Bartlett’s handling of this matter, and any associated matters that may be appropriate to include,” Mr McKim said.

Mr McKim said he had a conversation with Mr McCreadie after Mr McCreadie called his office at about 3.30pm today, but that he would not be commenting on the detail of Mr McCreadie’s concerns at least until receiving and considering any written documentation that Mr McCreadie may wish to send.

“I told Mr McCreadie that I would be prepared to receive any information he wished to send me, just as I would for any constituent.”

“I also suggested to Mr McCreadie that if he wanted to follow a similar process to that utilised by the Director of Public Prosecutions Tim Ellis, he should consider also sending any information to the Leader of the Opposition Will Hodgman.”

“Mr McCreadie is entitled to write to Will Hodgman and me if he wishes, just as Mr Ellis has previously done.”
