Draft assessment of proposal at Ralph’s Bay
I welcome the release of the Tasmanian Planning Commission’s draft integrated assessment report on the proposed Lauderdale Quay development at Ralph’s Bay.
The Tasmanian Liberals’ position on this proposal has been consistent and rock-solid.
The record shows that I always had significant personal doubts about this particular proposal, but felt the proper process must be followed.
When I became Leader in 2006, I said that the Tasmanian Liberals and the broader community have serious concerns about the nature of the project, its possible impact on the natural environment and its social and economic impact.
I also said that the RPDC (as it then was) is the appropriate body to examine the project thoroughly and test those concerns. The draft report released today shows that, after rigorous independent assessment, our concerns were well-founded.
The Tasmanian Liberals support development, but not at any cost.
I commit now to abide by this independent assessment.
David Bartlett must immediately give the same commitment.
