Commending Positive Action on Street Violence

Posted on

Matt Stevenson has today commended moves in Tasmania’s Upper House to establish a select committee on street violence.

Jim Wilkinson of the Legislative Council moved the establishment of the committee on Wednesday, with support from fellow MLC’s Greg Hall and Vanessa Goodwin. The move follows a number of reported attacks, the most recent being the alleged bashing of university student Ryan Brown.

“This is exactly the kind of move Tasmania needs. I have been campaigning for an initiative similar to the “One Punch Can Kill” campaign and the “Step Back. Think” campaign to be established in Tasmania for months and positive action like that shown in the Legislative Council this week is right on the mark” Matt Stevenson said today.

Matt is calling upon the Government to support the bid for a select committee to show bipartisan support for affirmative action on street violence and reduce the impacts it has on the Tasmanian community.
