Bartlett confirms he opposes four-lane Midland Highway

Posted on

David Bartlett has today confirmed that he opposes the construction of the four-lane Midland Highway that all Tasmanians deserve.

The Premier’s flip-flopping on this issue confirms he is tired and out of ideas, and doesn’t have the leadership and vision this State requires.

Instead of doing what is right for Tasmania and lobbying the Prime Minister for Federal funding for the Midland Highway, he is desperately twisting and turning, trying to do what he thinks is the right for David Bartlett and Labor.

It is now abundantly clear that the only way Tasmanians will get the four lane Midland Highway they deserve is to elect a Hodgman Liberal Government on 20 March next year.

NB: For those interested, the Tasmanian Liberal’s policy to duplicate the Midland Highway can be found here

The policy has remained unchanged since announced on 17th June 2008, including, clearly: “The Tasmanian Liberals have adopted as policy the progressive duplication of approximately 120 km of the Midland Highway which is not yet dual carriageway. We will seek to work cooperatively with the Federal Government of the day on this important infrastructure project. Bypasses of Perth and Campbell Town have not been considered and are not included in our proposal.”
