Are council elections a policy-free zone?
As part of research on who to vote for at the council elections, a Kingborough resident asked a sitting Kingborough Councillor standing for re-election, his thoughts on rezoning of the potentially contentious Huntingfield subdivision.
His answer was that under planning legislation he could not make any comment on whether or not he would support such an application because he would then have to disqualify himself from any debate or voting on the application because the whole council sat as a planning authority.
Now that is just a tad strange.
In order to decide for whom one should vote, I would have thought it useful – if not essential- to know in advance the policies the candidate might espouse relating to a matter of interest to the voter.
Any thoughts from the TT Army?
