The difference between 1080 use between NZ and Tas is that in NZ it is being used to try and control possums that are gradually wiping out the native ground birds – the country has also just carried out a huge and open consultation on the continuation of its use with the all the documentation available for the public to read.
In Tas 1080 is used to kill everything and anything that is perceived as a threat to profit including wiping out the native wildlife.
NZ uses 1080 reluctantly to try and preserve its native birds and Tas uses it indiscriminately to try and wipe out its native wildlife.
We recently gave up on the idea of returning to live in Tasmania as we didn’t want to live in a town and couldn’t find a country area not blighted by appalling forestry practices – aerial spraying, laying of 1080, clear felling etc.
