Union fury at PS job policy
GOVERNMENT departments are not accepting voluntary redundancy despite a need to slash staff to meet budget cuts. The Community and Public Sector Union has expressed concern its members are not being offered voluntary redundancies because the Government has not banked enough money to cover the costs. Spokesman Tom Lynch said as a result public servants were under strain because of ad hoc staff cuts which would result in a “catastrophic error” as checks and balances were ignored because of too much work and too few people. He singled out Treasury and Child Protection Services as two agencies particularly feeling the pinch, and warned public servants may start work-to-rule action to cope with the stress. Read more here
