Top cop’s surprise Franklin bid

THE Liberal Party has been thrown off balance by the surprise pre-selection of police commander Tony Mulder.

Mr Mulder, 54, who is currently also standing for re-election as an independent Clarence council alderman, has elected to run as a candidate in the southern Tasmanian seat of Franklin.

He was not expected to throw his hat into the state election ring for the Liberals.

His shock decision to stand as a Liberal in Franklin has thrown the careful plans of the Liberal Party to rocket former Family First federal candidate Jacqui Petrusma into State Parliament into disarray.
