Ian Rist says:
It seems the detection cameras are much more successful on red foxes in the Sierra Nevada than in Tasmania.
Maybe we don’t have the right cameras or the right foxes.
Before the usual participants cry foul…“the density numbers are different”, I would remind them of the success of photographing one of the rarest animals on earth, the Himalayan Snow Leopard (Uncia uncia).
The photography of the Snow Leopard being successful in an area of 612,021 square kilometres, compared with no success in photographing a single fox in mainland Tasmania at 62,409 square kilometres. Tasmania being approx. one tenth the size of the Snow Leopard’s range.
The Snow Leopards are obviously more photogenic than Tasmanian foxes.
