It’s become the harshest indictment yet of spineless Australian politicians. Rudd, Garrett, Penny Wong, Tony Burke, Kim Carr and regional basket weavers like Dick Adams all knew of the vandalism and corruption that is the Tasmanian wood-chip industry — and did nothing.
Gunns lawyers wrote legislation that permanently removed the legal rights of Australian citizens during the Howard era, and yet Kevin Rudd didn’t have a problem with it.
Now, thanks to a ‘World Economic Reboot’, Gunns have been forced to go to Sodra in Sweden with begging bowls in hand.
All the aces are on Sodra’s side, and the EU has real environmental standards to comply with.
They have the strict ‘Forest Stewardship Council’ regulations to observe. That means no 64,000 tonnes of carcinogenic dioxins per day into Australia’s premier fishery.
No insane logging of forests older than the colonies themselves.
No ruthless destruction of devil and eagle habitat to cover the next franked dividend.
Why was Garrett unable to perform the task Sodra is now doing?
Why didn’t Australia’s pin-striped climate change minister Penny Wong have a problem with cashing-in our stored carbon to feed some bloated industrialists? Ms Wong knew Gunns and Forestry Tasmania were destroying the worlds most efficient carbon sinks yet did nothing.
The ALP have simply colluded with Turnbull and Abetz of the previous regime, and have handed all the regulating to Sweden. Gunns are now running a disinformation campaign telling us that their mill will be plantation based.

They signed a 20 year pulp wood supply agreement with Forestry Tasmania to supply them with old native forests.
Rudd, Garrett and Wong are a bloody disgrace to outsource our environmental regulation to the EU when we are paying them to do the job.
