‘Doubts grow over Bartlett’s leadership’

BRETT WHITELEY, Libs Whip
David Bartlett’s bizarre announcement yesterday that he was “confident” he had the support of the party he supposedly leads is nothing short of a threat to Michael Aird and Michael Polley.

The announcement comes after mounting concerns that David Bartlett’s leadership is under threat from within. It is no secret that there is growing disquiet amongst Labor members over the Premier’s erratic behavior.

The fact that David Bartlett would not tell the public yesterday what his plan for minority government was before today’s meeting shows that he is not confident his current plan will be agreed to and he will try and re-write history after the fact.

Mr Bartlett is right to be worried about the powerful Aird/Polley faction. The two of them have been the puppet masters pulling the Labor Party’s strings for well over twenty years.

Mr Bartlett must be painfully aware at the moment that Michael Polley and Michael Aird have been involved in the coups that destroyed the careers of several former Labor leaders, including at least two former premiers – Doug Lowe and Paul Lennon.
