Pembroke: A second call to debate

James Crotty the independent Labor Candidate for The Legislative Council seat of Pembroke today called on his fellow candidates to join him in a public debate to be moderated by Dr Richard Herr.
Dr Herr has agreed to moderate the debate because of his support for the democratic process. It would be fitting that we candidates support the robust tool of meaningful debate in allowing the public to assess a candidate.
The debate will be held on the next week at a time and place to be advised. Public attendance and involvement is encouraged.

James Crotty the independent Labor Candidate for The Legislative Council seat of Pembroke today called on the State Government to create a commission to examine complaints about the police, the office of the DPP, the Judiciary and Parliamentarians.
Mr Crotty a lawyer of 25 years experience said, “Justice must be seen to be done. No-one is above the law. Public confidence in the justice system is increased when complaints can be dealt with in a manner which attracts public confidence”.
Mr Crotty said, “ The present system of police investigating police does not attract confidence. There needs to be investigative independence”
“In relation to the Judiciary and Parliament the police may not be an appropriate agency to complain to. As exemplified by recent events that does not attract public confidence”.
Mr Crotty’s call follows the resignation of a Victorian Magistrate after it became public speeding tickets incurred by the Magistrate in a departmental car had been wrongly attributed to the Magistrate’s father.
No one paid by the public purse should be exempt from public scrutiny Mr Crotty said.
