After 10 years of working in the front-line of social work …

Unfortunately, the most we can expect the state government to do is commission a study into homelessness, review it in a couple of years time, and perhaps have a few ‘talkfest’ roundtable meeting with ‘stakeholders’ followed by a nice lunch. After 10 years of working in the front-line of social work and trying to assist and support disadvantaged people, many of which experience a form of homelessness, I expect nothing but waffle from the government. Whether they call it a “strategic-plan” or a “social inclusion practice model” or “policy development”, the word POVERTY is never mentioned, very little meaningful practical resources are actually targeted at the issue. I think most of the budgeted money for addressing the issue of homelessness goes on venue hire, ‘consultancy’ fees and nice lunches at talk-fests. Just a pity the homeless don’t get nice lunches too!
