Green Power for Break O’Day
PETER POWER
Introducing Peter Power, Lyons Greens candidate for Break O’ Day Council
I reside in St Marys in the Break O’ Day region. I own and manage one of Tasmania’s only true wilderness retreats, which overlooks the sunny east coast of Tasmania. http://www.rainbowretreat.com.au
My partner and I migrated to Tasmania in April 2002 as we saw plenty of opportunities and we were drawn here due to the clean green aspect of Tassie. Over the seven years I have been living here, I have built the retreat which runs solely on solar power and is a carbon-neutral business.
I am a registered wildlife carer and I rehabilitate orphaned and injured native animals and then release them back into the wild. I am the founder and President of Carers for Wildlife Tasmania, Inc. which was established in 2006 after the devastating bushfires. I help coordinate local carers and I am involved in fundraising and community awareness of the well-being of our local native animals. http://www.wildlifetasmania.com
I am a registered Civil Marriage Celebrant and I conduct weddings and life celebrations in the Break O Day region and beyond. I enjoy my work as a celebrant and I see it as a community service.

I am a Justice of the Peace appointed by the State Attorney General’s Office and I am proud to be able to help the local community where I can in this role.
I am a human rights activist, working to achieve a better life for people from all walks of life.
I do a lot of work with the gay and lesbian rights movement and I established ECQLS (East Coast Queer Life Support) as I saw a glaring need for a service on the East Coast that caters for the GLBTI community. ECQLS is a support and referral network for people of all ages who are having difficulties coming to terms with their sexual identity or other issues. http://www.ecqls.com
I am passionate about the environment and about the future direction of conservation in Tasmania and Australia. I am very concerned about the health and wellbeing of our community and that is why I am running as a Greens candidate for the upcoming local council elections.
There are many issues that need to be addressed such as the unmonitored use of triazines which is affecting the health of our community and the expansion of forestry works and plantations in the region.
