BOB McMAHON
The likes of Xenophon, Milne and Brown would do this nation a great service by pointing out that the Burke/Gunns affair is infinitely more serious than the mate’s deal Rudd and Swann are alleged by Abetz and Turnbull to have facilitated for the car dealer John Grant.
Even a casual observer of the Australian political circus might wonder why the parallels between the two affairs have not been noticed. Abetz and his dimwit Libs are blind to it because they fully support what Burke, Labor and the CFMEU (the union owned by Gunns) are proposing; the plundering of the public purse in as breathtaking an example of grand larceny as ever witnessed in this nation. Hypocrisy unbound.
Were the Liberals in power instead of Labor it would be lawyer Abetz and not lawyer Burke stitching up the deal for John Gay.
Hundreds of millions of dollars of this nations wealth continually shovelled into the coffers of Gunns and the logging industry is so much the natural state of affairs in this country that it is not newsworthy and never has been. We are long overdue for a change on that front, because what Burke is apparently proposing constitutes a massive escalation of the normal process of theft by proxy on behalf of Gunns. Burke is proposing we go nuclear.
