Government dismisses poison claim

The State Government has found the Tasmanian timber company Gunns did not breach spraying regulations at a north-west forestry coupe earlier this year. About 10 people meeting on a neighbouring property claimed they were poisoned by aerial chemical spraying. The complainants said chemical spray from a nearby Gunns plantation at Weegena had drifted onto the Mersey River, causing them health problems including nausea, headaches and fatigue. At the time Gunns said there was no basis to the claims and a report by the Department of Primary Industries supports the company. Read more here
