This is disastrous legislation
ANDREW RICKETTS
This is the way the Tasmanian Government (David, David and Michael anyway) is planning to gut the state planning legislation. This is disastrous legislation. And it is only a part of what the government has in store for the RMPS in the next few weeks. More is planned shortly.
Note that although there is DRAFT written on the document I am not aware of any public consultation.
There is no formal consultation occurring with the public of Tasmania over the new legislation/s even though in the Parliament Minister Llewellyn committed to a DRAFT.
My suggestion is to call on David Llewellyn (the Minister who is gutting the planning system) to hold a proper and transparent public consultation on this draft by reference to the RPDC (including a public report). He can do this.
I urge complaints to the newspapers and the Premier as well as Minister Llewellyn. Only concerted outrage will be effective.
Note the Liberals do not even have a policy on planning. The Greens do.
I have not checked Labor.
The matter is surely urgent.

It appears the new planning laws are framed by forestry solicitors primarily for the benefit of the forestry industry, with the aim of removing any planning matters from councils that the Minister may choose to then make in-house planning decisions with no requirement for public or community input.
It is no wonder Mr. Gray, who represents Gunns, wants a LibLab coalition (Examiner Wednesday 20 May 2009 Page 1) to make sure the State is tightly governed in conjunction with forestry acting as the senior partner.
