Democracy Tasmania
The Thoughts of Kim il David
TASMANIAN TIMES
WAS it only a month or two months ago that Premier David Bartlett described Tasmania as being in the midst of economic renaissance?
Was it less than a year ago that Premier David Bartlett described himself as a “democratist”?
A what?
Yes, that’s right, there is no such word.
First it was only the English language that was suffering. But then Tasmanians began to realize they too were in the firing line.
The warning signs were all there:
• A Celebration of Public Education Day, with a statewide portrait painting competition in which Tasmanian schoolchildren were invited to come up with the best portrait of, yes, Premier David Bartlett.
• Then there was a moment worthy of the highest political satire when Premier David Bartlett announced that the Festival of Ideas which had his wholehearted support was being postponed until 2012. Now that’s an idea.
• Why, even Paul Lennon and Honey Bacon are beginning to doubt this man’s competence: Lennon lashes funding flunk ( Tassie’s slim Budget pickings ), Honey Bacon’s outrage. And you weren’t frightened before ?
But wait, there’s more.
So we invite our readers to offer up their own samples of the genius, humility and competence of the man who believed he was Tasmania’s Barack Obama.
