A confidential report has recommended an urgent review into the entitlements paid to ministerial staff in Tasmania.

The Premier David Bartlett released the report today after the State Opposition requested it under Freedom of Information laws.

Mr Bartlett says he is releasing the report to stop the Opposition trying to use it for political purposes.

PREMIER SETS STANDARDS FOR POLITICAL OFFICES

Premier David Bartlett today released a consultancy report which reviews
staffing and management of the Premier’s Office.

“I am releasing the Oceana Consultancy Report today because Will Hodgman has
applied for it under FOI and I don’t want him to put some bizarre political
twist on it.”

“What I can tell the Liberals and Greens is as these procedures are
implemented many of them will also apply to their political offices,” he
said.

The consultancy work, which included the report, cost $46,000 and has so far
resulted in over half a million dollars in savings.

Mr Bartlett said the extensive report was prepared by Michael Clarke – a
former head of DPAC, Bill Botell – a former Head of Office for Paul Keating
and Ron Snashall – a former Canberra senior public servant and Labor
candidate.
