MEDIA ALERT: 15/5/2009
PUBLIC MEETING 12 noon Saturday 23 May,
Christian City Church Auditorium, 30 Austin St, Wynyard.
The Tarkine is a globally significant rainforest wilderness right on our backdoor.
If we get things right we could have an iconic wilderness & heritage tourism
asset every bit as unique and well recognised as Kakadu or the Daintree
Rainforest. But if we get things wrong, we could lose the very values that make
the Tarkine so unique. Come along and hear the visions of how Tasmania’s political
parties and key community leaders believe we should develop tourism in the Tarkine,
and have the opportunities to present questions.
Speakers:
Daryl Gerrity, Mayor, West Coast Council,
Rob Fairlie, Tarkine Business Council,
Jeremy Rockliff MP, Deputy Liberal Leader,
Nick McKim MP, Tasmanian Greens Leader,
Bryan Green MP, Labor Member for Braddon,
Dr Phill Pullinger, Tarkine National Coalition,
with video contributions from
Kevin Hyland, Mayor, Waratah Wynyard Council
and Daniel Hannah, CEO Tasmanian Tourism Industry Council
Format:
Each speaker will be given 5 minutes to speak with the opportunity to use visual aids via data projector.
Following the last speaker, the public will be given the opportunity to ask questions in a panel discussion.
