Goodbye RPDC

CASSY O’CONNOR

The Tasmanian Greens today secured the admission that the Bartlett government’s Resource, Planning and Development Commission Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, which is currently being debated, will abolish the RPDC.
Greens Environment spokesperson Cassy O’Connor MP obtained the admission from the Minister, David Llewellyn, when questioning him during debate this evening.

“Finally, the Minister was forced to admit that these planning ‘reforms’ of the Bartlett government will abolish the RPDC, and replace it with an endangered body open to political manipulation,” Ms O’Connor said.

“This 11th-hour admission, dragged out of the Minister, confirms the worst fears of many in the community.”

The Bartlett government used its numbers to force a late night sitting to ram the contentious Bill through the Lower House.
