My information is that pulp mill engineers who had left Launceston due to the uncertainty are now back preparing to start work on the mill. One said he has seen 3 warehouses of equipment. We already know about the turbine stored in the warehouse at Bell Bay at the northern end. The last major stumbling block appears to be Gunns’ inability to get their planned pipeline past recalcitrant councils and land owners. A result of withdrawing from the Projects of State Significance process. However, the State Government is riding to the rescue by rushing through its new planning system laws for Projects of Regional Significance which gives the planning minister all the powers needed to over-ride objections by local government and the community to the pipeline.
