WHY doesn’t the state government follow Ontario and Massachusetts and enact legislation that encourages the reduction in the use of toxic chemicals? Such a mechanism can be used together with targeted banning of major offenders such as Simazine and dangerous practices such as aerial spraying. The Massachusetts model, adopted by Ontario has successfully cut hazardous materials by 50% over a period of 10 years. The Ontario legislation expected as early as 7th, April requires businesses to tabulate the amount of dangerous compounds they use, report the results to the province and the public, and then develop plans to cut reliance on the harmful substances.
